In keeping with its policy of cutting down on unauthorised advertisements, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced a scheme under which violators will be allowed to regularise their signages by making a one-time payment.

The scheme is available till March 31, the MCD has said.

As per the guidelines contained in its outdoor advertisement policy, only one self-signage of the size not exceeding 2.5 sq m can be displayed at each shop, office or business premises. Such signage must compulsorily contain the display relating to the name of the trade and shop number.

The MCD had launched a crackdown on violators last year, sending notices to a large number of business premises.

“Notices for damage charges were sent for signages displayed in violation of such parameters or carrying the display of other companies,” officials said.

Now, the corporation has decided to grant one-time relaxation for such signages to pay on actual basis, without any damage charges or penalty, up to March 31.

“Those who want to avail this benefit may pay only the actual charge, as reflected in the demand notice, by deducting the damage charge and interest component,” they said.

The civic body has asked the shopkeepers and business houses to strictly follow the rule on self-signages otherwise they will have to face action.
