The Ms Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal Government plans to set up four rural haats (marketplace) in four districts under the Backward Region Grant Fund.
These haats would be set up at Purulia, Bishnupur in Bankura, Alipurduar in Jalpaiguri and at Jhargram in West Midnapore district. The estimated project cost on each haat would be close to Rs three crore, according to a press release.
These haats would provide better marketing facilities to the artisans and medium and small enterprises and would also facilitate exposure to needs of buyers and permanent display of products.
Revenue generation of each rural haat is expected to be Rs 29.2 lakh a year.
