The West Bengal government will take stringent action against organisations defaulting on payment of employees' provident fund (PF), gratuity and insurance funds, the State Labour Minister, Mr Purnendu Basu, said in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
The government plans to strengthen the machinery for recovery of PF and gratuity dues from defaulters.
Over 150 FIRs have already been filed against such defaulters, mostly of the jute industry.
According to the minister, a cell has been created by in the Labour Department to deal with cases relating to PF and gratuity arrears. The PF commissioner has also been told to expeditiously take necessary steps.
The State labour minister was replying to queries raised by Trinamool Congress MLA, Mr Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, during the zero hour.
Mr. Chattopadhyay alleged that PF dues amounting to Rs 75 crore in the state-run North Bengal State Transport Corporation had accumulated over the last 34 years of Left Front rule.
