There is a need for construction industry to think about alternative sources, according to Mr N. Yogish Bhat, Deputy Speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly.
He said this at the inauguration of ‘Mangalore Realty and Buildcon Expo’ here on Saturday.
He said that recently there was a project exhibition of final-year students of various engineering colleges in Mangalore. Many students from civil engineering background came out with newer solutions for the construction industry.
Mr Bhat said that a lot of silt has accumulated at Lakya dam in Kudremukh region of Chikmagalur district.
Removal of silt from the dam can help provide an alternative to sand in the construction industry. Engineers and construction experts should think on this matter, he said.
Mr T. Gautham Pai, Managing Director of Manipal Technologies Ltd, said that real estate developers should look at developing affordable houses to common man in the country.
Mr K. Narasimha Prabhu, Managing Director of Manipal Ace Event Management Company (the organisers of the realty expo), said that his company would organise such property expos in Bangalore and Hubli in the coming months.
Plans are also there to organise auto expos in Mangalore and Hubli, he added.
