The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the taking over of Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and bringing it under the administrative control of Tata Memorial Centre, an aided institution of DAE.
It also cleared augmentation of additional manpower of 166 posts in medical, paramedical and support positions.
“The decision comes in the wake of the increasing instances of cancer, limited cancer treatment facilities and the need for a hospital support to carry out further research in North Eastern Region,’ an official release said.
Expenditure estimate The approximate non-recurring expenditure for strengthening of institute is estimated at ₹150 crore and annual recurring expenditure is estimated at ₹45-50 crore.
