An eerie calm prevailed over the 2A Motilal Nehru Marg residence of Mr A. Raja, following his arrest. The posh tree-lined stretch's calm was shattered by a dozen-odd outdoor broadcasting vans giving ‘live' bytes, curious passers-by peeping out of their moving vehicles and a bunch of monkeys playing on the parapet. There was no sign of action in the vicinity of the house despite the arrest of the occupant, not even party workers camped outside.
The former Telecom Minister's arrest by CBI also spooked the markets, with the Sensex wiping out the day's gains and tanking in the last half hour of trade. News of the arrest of Mr Raja, his former personal secretary, Mr R.K Chandolia, and former telecom secretary, Mr Siddharth Behura, impacted market movement late afternoon.
The AICC General Secretary, Mr Janardhan Dwivedi, said the arrest of the former telecom minister in the 2G spectrum allocation scam was a case of “law taking its own course”.
