The government's job-generation schemes should be supplemented with entrepreneurial schemes to boost sustainable employment.

Prof R. Hiremani Naik, chairman of the Institute of Management Studies and Research, Kuvempu University, said this at the inauguration of a conference on ‘Indian business scenario and jobless growth' at Shankaraghatta in Shimoga district on Thursday. The MBA department of the university had organised the conference.

He attributed the unemployment growth to the very low investments in basic and applied research. He stated that the Government programmes such as national rural job guarantee scheme should be supplemented with entrepreneurial schemes. This will help boost sustainable employment, he added.

Inaugurating the conference, the President of the Peenya Industries Association, Mr Balasubramanyam S, urged the need to look at MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) sector for employment generation.

Prof T.R. Manjunath, Registrar of Kuvempu University, presided over the inaugural programme.

A press release said here that 126 research and concept papers were presented at the conference.
