Exporters have urged the government to exempt them from all domestic indirect taxes while rolling out the Goods and Services Tax to make them more competitive in the global market.
TS Bhasin, Chairman, Engineering Export Promotion Council of India, said while GST will be a major reform , exporters may face difficulties in implementation if the Model GST Law is adopted. Exporters should be exempted from all indirect taxes rather than paying them and claiming refunds at a later stage. The process of tax refund takes over six months and the delay leads to pumping in additional working capital, he said.
