In a bid to regulate prices of medical device, the government has begun the process to bring the $4-billion sector under the ambit of Department of Pharmaceuticals.
In this regard, it has been suggested that DoP be renamed the Department of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices.
Chemicals and Fertilizer Minister Ananth Kumar said the government is looking to regulate prices of medical devices in India to ensure the health security.
The DoP comes under the ministry.
The government is also planning other steps such as setting up parks for medical devices and promote its manufacturing in the country.
