The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) will redistribute tax appeals pending before the Commissioner (Appeals) Central Excise and Service Tax. An official statement said this is being done in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to eliminate the huge pendency in litigation.
A CBEC circular said, the cases pending before the Commissioner (Appeals) as on June 2017 end will be redistributed among all other officers in the rank of a Commissioner in the jurisdiction of a zone.
The Principal Chief Commissioner and Chief Commissioner will be responsible for formulating proposals for reallocation of appeals pending with Commissioners (Appeals). The officers have been tasked to eliminate the pendency of appeals by March 31, 2018, the statement added.
