The NDA government is focusing on identifying 40 crore workers in the unorganised sector in the country and implementing welfare schemes for them, according to Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Santosh Gangwar.

Each worker would be given a permanent number and the exercise will be completed in the next six months, he said.

Scheme in offing To help the unorganised labour, the Unorganised Workers Social Security Act has been passed and the PM Suraksha Bima Yojana is also for their welfare. The government is working on a scheme for them since they do not have ESI, PF, gratuity or maternity leave and do not come under Workmen Compensation and Industrial Disputes Act, the Minister said.

He was speaking here on Monday at the valedictory of a crafts mela organised by Centre for Bharatiya Management Development (CBMD) and Visakha Integrated Social Organisations’ Association (VISA), an umbrella organisation of NGOs, at AU Engineering College Grounds.

Gangwar said a total of 9. 5 crore persons were provided loans from ₹50,000 to ₹10 lakh, amounting to₹4 lakh crore through banks.

ESI hospital He said the State government has handed over land here for the proposed ESI hospital. The local hospital will be upgraded to 500 beds and work will begin in March during his next visit to the city.
