The government plans to promote common facility centres to support gems and jewellery industry.

“The government is serious about the gems and jewellery industry and wants to promote the common facility centres for the growth of the sector. There are total 10,000 units across India with over 1.2 million skilled workforce, readily available for the MSME’s of the gems and service sector,” Ministry of Commerce and Industry Economic Advisor Rupa Dutta said.

While speaking at the Kimberley Process Intersessional Meet, Dutta said that over 2,000 units are dedicated for processing diamonds for import and export.

She added that common facility centres are a tool for socio economic transformation. “Government has granted a few common facility centres in important jewellery hubs across India,” she said.

All India Angadiya’s Federation said, The fundamental foundation of our business is trust. Angadiya’s, a part of the supply chain, are skilled workforce which is backbone of the entire gems and jewellery sector.
