The Delhi High Court has, once again, directed the Centre to release Greenpeace India's funds, which had been blocked earlier in 2014.
The Ministry of Home Affairs had, through an order, blocked remittance to Greenpeace India worth over Rs 1.5 crore, following a report by the Intelligence Bureau, which had pointed fingers at non-Governmental organisations, and activists, campaigning against projects, such as coal mining. The IB report had accused these entities of working against national interest.
Greenpeace India had challenged the Home Ministry order and the Delhi High Court had asked the Centre to unblock funds to Greenpeace in September as well. The Centre, however, did not restore access to the funds despite the court directive.
