The stalemate in Andhra Pradesh Assembly on land allotment issue showed no signs of ending today, with both the Treasury and Opposition Benches sticking to their stands.
For the seventh day today, the Opposition maintained that it wanted constitution of a Joint Legislature Committee to probe the land allotments since 2004; and the Government once again asserted that any demand would be considered only after a discussion on the issue in House.
Proceedings of the Assembly were adjourned for 30 minutes this morning after the leaders of all Opposition parties expressed their views. TDP, which raised the demand for JLC, was not satisfied with the Government’s reply.
TDP MLAs stormed the Speaker’s podium, forcing officiating Speaker Mr Nadendla Manohar to adjourn the proceedings.
Earlier, Mr Manohar sought the views of the House to break the deadlock that has seen the proceedings getting adjourned without transaction of any real business in the last seven days.
The Leader of Opposition, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, pointed out that the UPA Government in the Centre had to give in to the Opposition’s demand in Parliament for Joint Parliamentary Committee to probe the 2G spectrum scandal.
“The entire winter session of Parliament was lost over the demand and ultimately, the UPA agreed to JPC without a debate. The state government too should constitute a JLC without a discussion on the (land) issue,” he said.
