Wood-based industries in the State have been brought under the provisions of the Kerala Forestry Act with effect from April 19.
R. Rajaraja Varma, principal chief conservator of forests, Kerala, issued the notification bringing the wood-based industries under regulation. Mechanised industrial units, including saw mills, would now be required to procure a license from the department of forests. The respective divisional forest officer/wild life warden has been authorised to issue licenses under the provisions of the act, Varma said.
Those units which have been operational prior to October 30, 2002, should submit their applications for a license before October 19, 2012.
Details of the notification and fees apart from a model of the application form are available on www.forest.kerala.gov.in.
