The Andhra Pradesh Stamps and Registration Minister, Mr T. Narasimham, has assured that the State Government has accorded top priority to drinking water and irrigation sources in view of the severe water crisis.

He was speaking at Somarayanapeta in Kirlamupudi Mandal of East Godavari district here after laying the foundation stone for protected drinking water scheme with an estimated cost of Rs 20 lakh to solve the drinking water problem in the district during the summer.

He said with this amount, digging of borewells, construction of water tanks and other facilities to solve the drinking water problem in the district will be taken up.

About Rs 650 crore has been spent in the mandal for providing water to 1.89 acres of agriculture land in the mandal, he said, adding that water has been provided from Venkatachalam Pushkar canal.

He said the State Government has given top priority to drinking water and irrigation sources in the state. Several districts in the state and particularly East Godavari district have been facing severe water crisis since a long time.

Hence, the Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, has mainly concentrated on the drinking water problems besides providing sufficient water to farmers during the kharif and rabi seasons. The Government is taking all steps to meet the needs of all sections of the people in the state, he said.
