There is no proposal before the State Government to declare holiday on the occasion of Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, but would consider organsing various programmes to celebrate it.
Replying on behalf of the Chief Minister, Minister for Law, Mr S. Suresh Kumar, told Mr Rahim Khan (Cong) in the State Assembly during question hour that at present there were 23 general holidays in the State, and that the Government did not favour enlarging the list.
He assured to consider a suggestion by Mr T. B. Jayachandra of Congress to do away with the holiday being given on second Saturdays to Government offices.
