Goa State Information Commission (GSIC) today ruled that the office of Advocate-General (AG) is a public office, and falls under the purview of the Right To Information Act.
GSIC Commissioner, Mr Motilal Kenny, directed the Chief Secretary, Mr Sanjay Srivastava, that the AG's office should comply with section 4 of the RTI Act, and all information pertaining to the AG's official working should be uploaded on the Government's Web site.
The directions came on a petition filed by Mr Aires Rodrigues, a social activist. Mr Rodrigues had complained that AG's office was not complying with the RTI Act, which came into effect in June 2005. The AG is a “Public authority” as defined in section 2 (h) of Act, he had argued.
