To help the urban poor under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has given the nod for the construction of 5,45,090 more affordable houses.
The investment of ₹31,003 crore has been made in this regard with Central assistance of ₹8,107 crore. The decision was taken at the 29th meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) on December 27. Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have got the nod for constructing 1,42,447 and 1,20,645 affordable houses, respectively, while Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh have been sanctioned 1,18,646 and 1,00,341 affordable houses.
Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Arunachal Pradesh are some of the other States where the affordable houses have been sanctioned.
In Uttar Pradesh — 1,02,047 houses, Madhya Pradesh — 90,333, Andhra Pradesh — 23,962, Jharkhand — 10,408 and in Karnataka — 8,742 houses will be built under the Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) component under which an eligible beneficiary is assisted to build a house on the land owned by him/her.
With the above mentioned proposed houses, cumulative houses under PMAY (U) would become 36,00,819 after final approval from CSMC.
Further, after subsuming projects of RAY scheme the total number of houses being funded under PMAY(U) would be 37,42,667.
