In the wake of leakage of chlorine gas from an industrial unit here, the Madhya Pradesh government has come up with new safety measures to be implemented in 32 industries using hazardous chemicals, officials said today.

As per these measures, the industrialists running these units have been asked to update their safety plants and put information regarding the measures implemented in a copy to be posted on the Web site of the district administration within 15 days, they said.

Over 30 persons had complained of irritation in the eyes following leakage of gas from the water filtration plant of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited's (BHEL) , situated on the Arera Hills near Madhya Pradesh Assembly building on Monday.

The industrialists have also been asked to submit a copy each of the same to the police stations in their respective areas and to the police control room, they said.

A meeting of the district crisis group was held yesterday and it reviewed safety measures with regard to hazardous chemicals and also discussed the possibility of creating a mechanism under which both administration and industrialists would contribute money to enhance safety measures.

The Madhya Pradesh government has already ordered an inquiry into the chlorine leakage incident.

Meanwhile, a deadline of September 30 has been set for shifting the Indian Oil Depot from Nishatpura on the city's outskirts, officials said.
