To meet the challenges faced by rapid urbanisation in the country, Hardeep Singh Puri , Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, on Thursday said that focus should be given on building infrastructure faster and better.

Addressing Mahindra Lifesapce Developers Ltd’s World City Confluence 2018, Singh said, “In order for us to meet the infrastructure needs of our urbanising economy, we must find ways to build infrastructure faster and better.”

He added, “this requires two fundamental conditions, first we think in an integrated and holistic manner about the planning for infrastructure. Second, we identify and secure sustainable sources of finance to pay for the infrastructure needs.”

Puri said that by March , 500 cities covered by AMRUT ( Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) are expected to deliver building permission and other related requests online without any human interaction.

On the fourth edition of the confluence, Puri said “Driven by PM’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’, a vision of inclusive development, we are dedicated to providing access to basic services, education, healthcare and livelihood to all citizens in the shortest possible time. Thus we are executing a number of flagship schemes in 'Mission Mode': Smart Cities, Swachh Bharat, AMRUT and Housing for All”.

The theme of confluence 2018 was ‘Cities of the Horizon’ focused on addressing challenges related to cities of the future and how emerging cities are the new drivers of the economy, with urbanisation as the dominant force for global growth in recent decades.
