From July, all packaged commodities will have to display mandatory information more prominently, covering at least 40 per cent area of the packet, except the top and bottom, Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has said.

A monitoring cell will be set up to ensure strict compliance of the new provision, Paswan said after chairing a meeting of the Bureau of Indian Standards at Mussoorie on Thursday, and directed officials of his Ministry to ensure enforcement e from July this year positively, an official statement said.

According to the amendment, the six mandatory points of information — name of manufacture/packager/ importer, net quantity of product, manufacturing date, retail sale price and consumer care contacts — shall have to be displayed in a panel of 40 per cent of the area of the packet in readable font size.
