Most of the shops and restaurants in Pune remained closed during the day on account of the bandh called in protest of the sharp raise in fuel prices.
Traffic on the usually busy roads was sparse, and public transport severely hampered. The few buses that were operational were running almost empty.
However, with many large companies having their own bus service, it was virtually business as usual in the corporate sector, and most companies reported normal attendance.
Early in the morning, protestors pelted stones on municipal buses and set some on fire. Over a dozen of them were damaged.
