Howrah-Dehradun Doon Express today derailed near Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh.
According to Indian Railway officials, three people have died and more than 15 injured in the accident. The Railway Minister, Mr Mukul Roy, has left Kolkata to visit the spot.
While the exact time of the accident is not known, rail sources said that seven bogies of the Dehradun-bound train went off the track this morning.
The West Bengal Chief Minister, Ms Mamata Banerjee, expressed concern for the safety of passengers.
