With the Tamil Nadu government setting in motion the process of replacing existing ration cards with bio-metric system to prevent irregularities, it today extended the validity of the present cards by another year.
The Chief Minister, Ms J. Jayalalithaa, had directed that the validity extended till December 31, 2012 as works regarding the bio-metric cards, which would have finger print and retina records of the holder, was underway, a release here said.
The new system would prevent prevalence of more than one card in the name of the same person.
