Industrial units are set to get some relief from power cut with the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board to supply power to high tension consumers with power from wind energy generators at night.
The Chief Minister, Ms Jayalalithaa in a `suo motu’ statement in the Assembly on Monday said that with the windy season picking up, about 100 MW of energy generated from the wind mills between 10.00 pm and 5.00 am in August and September will be supplied to high tension, industrial consumers. This would be a relief from the prevailing 20 per cent power cut prevailing for these units.
To ensure the full exploitation of the wind power, the energy would be supplied to the industrial units that request the supply from TNEB. This programme comes into effect from today, Ms Jayalalithaa said. This will help to get around the mismatch between the supply from wind energy generators that happens during the night and power consumption during the day.
Due to a power shortage, the industrial units are subject to 90 per cent power cut during the peak hours between 6.00 pm and 10 pm, and a 20 per cent power cut for all high tension and commercial connections.
