The deficit of Department of Posts (DoP) increased by 14.35 per cent to ₹6,258.60 crore for fiscal 2014-15 due to increased staff costs. The deficit stood at ₹5,473.10 crore in 2013-14, the annual report of the department said.
Gross working expenditure stood at ₹18,556.56 crore in 2014-15 as against ₹16,796.71 crore in the preceding year. “The increase was mainly due to payment of dearness allowance/annual increment, modified assured career progression, leave encashment during leave travel concession, cost of materials, fuel, etc,” the report said.
