Concerned over reports that contaminated water is being supplied in the Capital, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday asked Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to explain what measures are being taken for supplying potable water.
Taking cognisance of reports about a survey that 67 major water pipelines had micro cracks and were being contaminated by sewage, the Commission asked the DJB Chairman to submit a report within four weeks.
The Commission has also directed the Chairman to report as to what measures have been taken by it for supply of potable water to the residents of Delhi, an NHRC spokesperson said.
Mr Ramesh Negi, DJB CEO, on Monday admitted that there was water contamination in certain areas and sought “dedicated utility corridors” to deal with the problem.
