It is quite normal for film producers to choose a Friday for film releases. But this Friday is quite the routine one. As many as 7 films were released today. At least 10 films hit the screens in the last 10 days.
The films that were released on Friday are: Gambler, Nenu Naanna Abaddam, Jhalak, Aakasame Haddu, Yemaindi Nalo, Tappu and Antima Teerpu.
There are a few factors for the sudden spurt. The major one being the four big budget movies slated for Dasara season. Dookudu (Maheshbabu starrer), Rajanna (Nagarjuna), Sriramarajyam (Balakrishna) and Voosaravelli (Junior NTR) are in the final stages of completion and all set for release from the last week of September. Industry sources put the combined budget of these four movies at Rs 100 crore.
“A good number of releases in the last few weeks are dubbed movies. Producers generally factor in releases of only straight films (made in Telugu first) and not dubbed movies,” Mr Navdeep, a film hero whose Aakasame Haddu also released today, told Business Line.
Revival of Telangana movement in the form of Sakala Janula same (general strike) too cited as a reason for the sudden rush of releases. None of the film-makers, however, would come on record to comment on the T-threat.
Mr Natti Kumar, Chairman of Producers’ Council in Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce, however said that the spate releases was due to the influx of dubbing movies. “There is a huge influx of dubbed movies. Most of the releases in the last few weeks were in this genre,” he said.
Mr Kumar faulted the State Government for its policy of collecting taxes for flood of dubbed films.
