The Tamil Nadu Government is working towards producing around 183 MW of electricity from bagasse acquired from 12 sugar mills in the State from February next, the State Industries Minister, Mr P. Thangamani, said today.
He was replying to a question from Mr K Alaguvelu (AIADMK) in the State Assembly.
Mr Alaguvelu had asked whether the Government had any proposal to generate electricity from bagasse obtained from co-operative sugar mills in his Kallakurichi constituency.
Bagasse, a fibrous matter that remains after the juice is crushed from sugarcane, is also used as biofuel.
