Trucks are the backbone of country’s economy. Out of the 90 lakh trucks, at any point of time nearly 60 lakh transverse the length and breadth of the country carrying over 60 per cent of India’s cargo.

With the truck industry being so critical, BusinessLine in association with Indian Oil Corporation and YES Bank is launching a series of events across the country to bring various stakeholders, including truck owners, users and financiers together to discuss issues concerning the industry.

The first of the series — Lead The Road — will be held on June 1 at Namakkal, the hub of truck industry in South India, with representatives from the truck industry, various industry associations and from IOC and YES Bank participating. Subsequent events are planned in various locations, including Kochi and Vijayawada. MR Kumaraswamy, President, State Lorry Owners Federation, Tamil Nadu, will give a special address.

This will be followed by a panel discussion on ‘The Road Ahead’ involving speakers from various segments related to the truck industry.

The speakers are T Palanikumar, DCM (RS), Salem DO, Indian Oil; Anil Menon, National Business Head - Commercial Vehicle Loan, YES Bank; Senthil Velan, RM-South, Ashok Leyland; M Ponnambalam, President, Southern Region Bulk LPG Transport Owners Association; K Mohan, SPM Transports; R Vangili, President, Namakkal Taluk Lorry Owners Association and C Balasubramanian, Senior General Manager-Operations, Sundaram Finance.
