The United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID) will provide a financial assistance of £4.5 million over a period of 4 years for the smart cities mission, a statement from the Ministry of Urban Development said on Friday.

A British delegation led by Priti Patel, Secretary of State, DFID, met the Union Minister for Urban Development, Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information & Broadcasting, M Venkaiah Naidu, here to take stock of the steps taken as a follow-up to the India-UK joint statement issued during PM Narendra Modi’s visit to UK in November 2015.

The joint statement had mentioned that DFID would collaborate in three partnerships with Indore, Pune and Amravati, through technical assistance, expertise sharing and business engagement.

“DFID has agreed to position a Strategic Programme Management Unit as part of the technical assistance programme for the smart cities mission at Central level and also agreed to provide a financial assistance of £4.5 million over a period of 4 years,” it added.
