Praising India’s efforts in the rebuilding of Afghanistan, a top Democratic leader in the US Congress has said partnership between Washington and New Delhi will play an important role in establishing peace in the war-torn country.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, in a meeting with the Indian Ambassador Nirupama Rao yesterday, spoke about the shared values between the two counties and the broad spectrum of opportunities in collaboration between the two.

Discussing on the regional situation in South Asia, Pelosi welcomed India’s positive contribution to Afghanistan’s reconstruction, and viewed the US-India partnership having a key role to play in ensuring country’s peace and prosperity.

Pelosi and Rao expressed admiration for the contributions made by the dynamic Indian-American community to the development of India-US relations, and agreed that the community stands as a crucial bridge between the two nations.

Recalling her visit to India in 2008 as Speaker of the House of Representatives, Pelosi said she was “honoured to be welcomed” by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
