LG Electronics India today announced its entry into the fast-growing laptop market with a range of 13 notebooks including a 3D model, mainly targeted at “price- and technology-conscious” consumers.

With this launch, LG hopes to garner 5 per cent share of the current 3-million-unit laptop market in India in the first year. “We expect our IT division to grow at least by 15 per cent in revenue terms, and our target is to make it a Rs 1,000-crore vertical by the end of 2012,” said Mr Soon Kwon, Managing Director, LG Electronics India. Priced in the range of Rs 26,000 to Rs 67,000, these notebooks feature Intel processors and hard-disk of 500 GB and above, he said. Elaborating on the 3D model, Mr Kwon said that LG A530 would offer the complete 3D experience to the user. The laptop also has a full HD LED screen and Intel Core i5 processor and a Geforce graphics card. It also features a 3D dual webcam to enable users shoot to their own 3D videos and photos.

To ensure numbers, the company plans to spend 10 per cent of Notebook business revenue on marketing by 2012. It has also established 230 service centres across India to take care of the after-sales service requirements.

Currently, the Rs 16,000-crore LG Electronics India has monitors and optical disc drives in its IT product portfolio.

“Going forward, it plans to bring in more notebook models—it will have at least 20 by 2012,” he said.
