When he found that there’s no bankable, dedicated online source for medical and healthcare information in India, Rajeev Shandilya, a hotel management professional, decided to build one.
www.braham.inHe spent all his savings, hired three techies and keyed in scientific data himself to build, what he claims, the first dedicated medical search engine — www.braham.in.
“But I would like it to emerge as a one-stop-shop information source for all medical and healthcare-related information,” 45-year-old Shandilya told BusinessLine over phone from Allahabad, where he is working.
His company is registered in New Delhi. Though Shandilya is positioning the site as an exclusive medical search engine, you can use it for general search queries too.
10,000 hits a dayTo beat high costs in acquiring the servers, Shandilya chose to take virtual servers on pay-per-use mode. “At present, I am getting about 10,000 hits a day,” he said.
He, however, refused to divulge the quantum of the investments put in so far. He is not looking at infusing private equity funds too.
Apart from providing answers to medical queries, the search engine gives city-based information on the availability of hospitals and doctors. “We have completed uploading data related to several top towns in the South, West and the North,” Shandilya said.
