As it opened the Rs 20-crore State Data Centre (SDC) under the National e-governance plan, the Andhra Pradesh Government is planning to use this IT-backbone to roll out citizen services through mobile phones.
The State Government plans to use the huge base of over five crore mobile connections to offer e-seva services, allowing people to pay utility bills and other services and encouraging paperless transactions.
By setting up SDCs, the National e-governance plan targeted to do away with redundant expenditure on software licences, security, maintenance and management of critical data.
It also aimed at reducing security risks by providing robust protection at State-level overseen by an established IT player.
The State has recently launched pilots to allow people to ask for revenue certificates using Internet.
This scheme promises to give those certificates in less than half-an-hour after applying for them.
Designed, implemented and managed by Wipro, the 9,000-sq ft data centre can store information up to 50 terabyte (TB), with a provision to expand up to 200 TB.
This centre would act as the backbone of all IT-related activities of the government.
After inaugurating the SDC here on Friday, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, the Chief Minister, called for robust security of information.
