In a bid to make healthcare services affordable to rural populace, the Bengal Engineering and Science University – Shibpur (BESU) has tied up with Kolkata-based software firm Metalogic Systems to initiate research work in the field of mobile phone interface enabled healthcare.
Metalogic Systems, a software e-engineering services company, is one of the first private firms to come forward and fund collaborative research projects with BESU.
Cost advantage
The research will explore possibilities of using a portable mobile phone interfaced devices that will transmit medical data and images to doctors to determine the course of future treatment and at reduced costs.
The device will help reduce ultrasonography costs for rural populace at 2-3 per cent of existing costs.
Metalogic-BESU Software Innovation and Design Centre will be set up on the BESU campus.
