Bringing up the death of Mr Sadiq Batcha, an aide of former Telecom Minister, Mr A. Raja, before the Supreme Court on Thursday, the petitioner in the 2G spectrum case – the NGO, Centre for Public Interest Litigation (CPIL) – sought a CBI investigation into the mysterious incident.
The court then agreed to hear this plea if the same was filed as an application before it.
CPIL, represented by advocate Mr Prashant Bhushan, said Mr Batcha's death was linked to the 2G scam and therefore it should be probed by the CBI, adding that the Tamil Nadu Government was also reportedly in favour of a CBI investigation into Mr Batcha's death.
Mr Bhushan said his client, the CPIL, would file the application before the apex court in case the Tamil Nadu Government decides against the CBI probe into the incident. The apex court, anticipating more developments in connection with the incident, asked Mr Bhushan to wait for some more time.
Incidentally, it was on CPIL's plea that a CBI probe was directed into the 2G scam.
PTI adds: Mr Sadiq Batcha, who allegedly committed suicide in mysterious circumstances, died of asphyxia, a doctor who conducted the post-mortem said today.
“We cannot say now whether it was suicide or murder.. the report will be ready in two weeks,” Dr V. Dekal said.
“The death was caused due to asphyxia but the cause of that cannot be confirmed till the forensic report is received,” he told reporters here, adding, the entire autopsy was videographed.
