West Bengal IT Minister, Amit Mitra, on Friday offered Nasscom a 10,000 sq ft of "ready" space to set up its first incubator in the region.

According to Mitra, the space has been allotted in the IT township of Sector V in Salt Lake.

The space will be provided by Webel (the West Bengal government's electronics arm). An additional 2,500 sq ft of space will also be allotted to the incubation facility. This space will be allotted once the facility becomes operational.

"Please ensure that you provide venture capitalist and angel investors also to the incubation facility," Mitra said while speaking at the Nasscom Product Conclave in the city.

The minister also invited Nasscom to mentor the upcoming IIIT Institute here in Kalyani, West Bengal. The IIIT is expected to be operational from August this year.

Earlier in the day, Nasscom had sought support from the West Bengal government to set up an incubator to nurture and facilitate start-ups.

Speaking during the Conclave, R Chandrashekhar, President, Nasscom, had urged the state government to help set up an incubator.

The incubator will facilitate and nurture start-ups thereby creating entrepreneurship.

"I urge the state government to help set up an incubation facility here in West Bengal," he had said.
