For the third year in a row, Cognizant Technology Solutions has been named to Fortune Magazine 's World's Most Admired Companies list (of 350 companies). It was ranked third in information technology services category behind IBM and Accenture. The entire list includes 350 companies.

The US-based information technology employs over one lakh people and a majority of them are located in its development centres in India. The latest ranking comes from Fortune comes in the back drop of a 40 per cent increase in revenue for 2010 to $4.59 billion against $3.28 billion for 2009.

Fortune 's ‘World's Most Admired Companies' study examines nine attributes of reputation, including innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility and financial soundness.

While IBM scored 7.64 points, Accenture was behind at 7.40 and Cognizant with 6.47. The other major contenders include CACI International, Unisys, SRA International and ManTech International, according to Fortune.

In the annual Forbes ranking of the 25 fastest growing technology companies in 2010, Cognizant placed 11th, up from 15th place last year, in its eighth consecutive showing. Cognizant is the only company to make it to the list every year since the list's inception.

To qualify for the Forbes Fast Tech 25, companies must report minimum sales of $25 million and sales growth of at least 10 per cent over the latest 12 months, according to a Cognizant spokesperson.
