Cognizant is expecting to maintain its recruitments for 2011 at the same level as last calendar year. The IT major recruited nearly 25,000 professionals in 2010 taking its global manpower tally to nearly 100,000.

“In 2010, we recruited 25,000 professionals in India. We haven't finalised the recruitment figure for 2011 yet. However, it will be as good as last year,” the Managing Director and President of the company, Mr R. Chandrasekaran. told newspersons on the sidelines of the inaugural ceremony of its new 20-acre tech park at Bantala in the eastern fringes of the city on Tuesday. The company has invested Rs 200 crore in the project located in a special economic zone.

According to Mr Chandrasekaran, the industry is experiencing a strong demand scenario during the last two quarters. “Hopefully, it will continue in the future,” he added.

Operating out of nine cities in India, Cognizant provides consulting, enterprise applications, IT infrastructure and business process services to its global clients in industries spanning banking and financial services, insurance, retail, hospitality and life sciences.

Apart from it traditional markets in the US and Europe, the company will be focusing on India, West Asia, Japan, Australia and ASEAN countries.

Tech Park

Having started operations in Kolkata in 1996 with 16 people, the company now has more than 8,000 professionals in the city. In 2010 alone, it recruited 2,500 professionals in the Kolkata facility.

According to the company, the tech park facility inaugurated at Bantala on Tuesday will have approximately 650,000 sq ft of space in the first phase so as to accommodate more than 4,000 professionals. The capacity is estimated to be stepped up by four fold in due course.
