PTC, maker of Computer Aided Design software, aims to double its sales force in India by the year-end.

It plans to recruit professionals in functions such as sales, pre-sales and other marketing related functions. PTC at present has about 60 people doing these functions.

It may also consider increasing its R&D workforce in the country.

PTC has 1,000 employees doing R&D work out of its Pune office. The company has another development centre in Hyderabad and employs 100 people there.

India business

This ramping up of staff is part of a strategy to grow its India business — and to achieve that, it has appointed Mr Jeffrey Wilmot as Senior Vice-President and Country Manager for India. In his earlier role, he was the Senior Regional Director (Sales) at PTC in Philadelphia.

Mr Wilmot will be responsible for all go-to market resources in India and all the activities related to sales and marketing. The company is competing against the likes of Dassault Systemes in selling its CAD software to the automotive, aerospace, defence and manufacturing companies.

Talking to Business Line, Mr Wilmot said: “There is demand in India and with 50 per cent of the population in the youth segment, demand for cars and electronics will go up. This would, in turn, mean increased use of CAD solutions.”

Automotive and other manufacturing companies are increasingly looking towards these solutions as manufacturing processes get complex, according to industry watchers. The market for CAD tools that is classified under Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is estimated to be $30 billion in 2011, according to CIMdata.
