If you are stepping out of your college this year and aspiring for a career in outsourcing industry, here is good news.

The salary package of fresh graduates seeking entry-level jobs in the IT industry has gone up by 10-15 per cent this year compared to last year, say industry captains participating in Nasscom's India Leadership Forum 2011 currently in progress here.

According to industry estimates, the entry-level salary now ranges from upwards of Rs 2-5 lakh.

“In the campus placements, there is at least 10-15 per cent increase in remuneration packages being offered by the companies in general,'' Mr Aparup Sengupta, Chief Executive Officer of Aegis BPO, told Business Line here.

The company, which has over 50,000 on its rolls and plans to recruit over 11,000 this year, is conducting the recruitment from tier-II and tier-III towns.

“We too have noticed 15 per cent hike at entry level salaries,” confirms Mr Vijay K Thadani, Chief Executive Officer of NIIT Ltd.

Signs of rising demand

According to him, the increase in salary offers is largely due to significant increase in intake projections of IT industry including majors such as Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services for the coming financial year.

According to data available with a leading Chennai-based HR firm, the top five IT majors had hired over 1.10 lakh fresh graduates in 2010-11 and which is expected grow by significantly during 2011-12 given their projections.

The information available with colleges\institutes testifies to the hike in salary offers. When contacted, a senior official of International Institute of Information Technology-Hyderabad (IIIT-H) said: “We did notice upward movement in remuneration package in the placements process in our institute. It went up by a minimum of 10-20 per cent.”

The average range of salary for IIIT-H students was in the range of Rs 5.5-6.75 lakh a year, he added.
