IT hardware firm HCL Infosystems on Monday said it has received a contract from Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation (Keltron) for providing laptops and netbooks to the state government’s IT@School project.

“HCL Infosystems has been selected as the leading vendor to provide over 6,500 units of laptops and netbooks,” the company said in a statement.

However, the deal value was not disclosed.

The IT@School is a project led by the Kerala government to foster IT education and facilitate Information and Communication Technologies-enabled education delivery in schools all across the state.

The project will cover classes from 5th to 12th standard in the state reaching out to over 8,000 schools.

“The efforts made by the Kerala government and Keltron encouraging ICT-enabled education are truly commendable and we look forward to a continued association with such initiatives along with many more to come,” HCL Infosystems President and COO Mr J V Ramamurthy said.

Keltron is the nodal agency for supplying laptops and netbooks as a part of IT@School project for Government of Kerala.
