IT Serve Alliance, a US-based association of IT services companies, has called for extension of tax sops under the STPI scheme by at least three years. “If this is not feasible, at least recognise all STPI firms as SEZ units,” Mr Satish Mandava, President of IT Serve Alliance, said here in a press release.
The association made a representation to Mr Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Minister for Information Technology and Communications (Government of Andhra Pradesh), when the latter attended a meeting of the association at Dallas (Texas) on Monday.
The association has 150 companies as its members with a total turnover of $750 million and an employee base of 7,500 in the US. Indian operations of its members employed 15,000 in the country at various locations. Most of these companies are located in the Southwest, Southeast and Midwest regions of the US.
“About 90 of these companies perform back office operations from India. About 40 per cent of these firms have software development divisions supporting products as well as strategic solutions,” he said.
The association members have a total space of three lakh sq. ft in Hyderabad registered as STPI units or SEZs in Hyderabad.
