Idea Cellular today announced the launch of its Gold Standard 3G services which is expected to catapult mobile communications services and transform user experience in Kerala. The third generation mobile communication system, 3G, lets customers use an extensive range of high-end data services on a wide variety of handsets and other devices, Mr Ambrish Jain, Deputy Managing Director of Idea Cellular, said.

Besides Kerala, Idea's 3G services are now available in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Haryana. In Kerala, the 3G coverage is expected to reach 175 towns by the middle of the year and 1,215 towns by the end of the current fiscal.

Mr Ambrish Jain who was in town to launch 3G services, said, “Idea's 3G services will be expanded to provide expansive coverage across 4000 towns nationally by the year end. Idea will target areas of industrial and commercial activity, centres of learning and high potential rural hinterlands where broadband is yet to make a breakthrough. Idea has set up the most extensive customer service network to educate customers on 3G and support their requirements across the country. We are happy to flag off our Gold Standard 3G services in Kerala, our leadership circle today.”

Speaking about the 3G launch in the circle Mr B. Ramakrishna, COO Kerala, said, “Idea has constantly endeavoured to empower the rural and semi-urban population of Kerala by making mobile services available to over 65 lakh subscribers across the length and breadth of the state. Idea's 3G services will now give them an opportunity to experience high end data services such as video.”
