Telecom companies that want to target Karnataka would do well to offer people low-denomination recharges instead of spending money on branding according to a survey conducted by Bangalore-based market research company Opsbuds.
The company conducted a survey of 2,408 mobile users across the country and a comparison of the whole country with respect to Karnataka reveals interesting details. While good coverage remained the most important reason for choosing a service provider in Karnataka as well as the whole country, brand image was the second most important reason in India, though this slipped to fourth rank in Karnataka.
Furthermore, while low-denomination recharge was the fifth most important reason for choosing a service provider across the country, in Karnataka this was the third most important reason.
One interesting discovery of the survey was that older people preferred service providers such as Airtel and Vodafone, while youngsters prefer other service providers.
Explaining this, Mr K.K. Cariapa, Chief Buddy, Opsbuds, said, “Those who are over 40 years old subscribed to a network eight to 10 years ago and have not seen a reason to change. However, those below 40 have had a choice and have chosen other networks.”
