Infotech Enterprises, the Rs 1,200-crore engineering services company, is bracing up to be led by next generation leadership. Taking a cue from companies such as Infosys, Infotech Enterprises has put in a succession plan with a view to ensuring smooth transition of leadership.

The second-rung leadership team has already taken over important tasks, with Mr B.V.R. Mohan Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director, intending to focus on strengthening the organisation, while guiding on broad aspects of the company.

“I'm doing a lot of disengagement with regard to customer facing activity. Slowly, I will do more of it. It is not good for companies if the founder is eternally linked and entangled to it. They will take them down when they go down,” Mr Mohan Reddy, who evolved a small firm into a mid-tier firm with a turnover of Rs 1,200 crore last year.

“We will announce the right decision at the right time. I have pondered over it and prepared a well-laid down plan. I have cut down on number of customer facing interactions, letting the new generation take over,” he said.

“We have a well laid out plan for succession. I am now focussing on three aspects of systems and processes, streamlining and innovation,” he said.

7-member team

The company, which would have 10,000 employees by the year end, now have a seven-member leadership team — Mr Krishna Bodanapu (President - Engineering), Mr B Ashok Reddy (President – Global Human Resources and Corporate Affairs), Mr John Renard (President - Network & Content Engineering), Mr Bhanu Cherukuri (Chief Strategy Officer – Merger and Acquisitions) and Mr Ajay Agarwal – (Chief Finance Officer), Mr Rajaram Jayaraman (Senior Vice-President, Corporate Process Excellence Group and Mr Ramaswami Anantharam (Chief Technology Officer). Mr Krishna is the son of Mr Mohan Reddy and Mr Ashok his brother, both long-standing employees of the firm. Reddys have a 26 per cent stake in the firm.

Outlook

Infotech pegged turnover for 2011-12 at Rs 1,600 crore, with a growth rate of 25 per cent. “We project a quarter-on-quarter increase in revenue of 5-7 per cent. Operating margins would increase to 16-16.5 per cent for the year as against 15 per cent last year,” he said.

Infotech is planning to expand its operations to Tamil Nadu to set up its auto practice business. “When you think of auto, you should think of Chennai or Pune. We might zero in on Chennai or Coimbatore for this purpose,” he said.
