The next time a person dials 911 for emergency in the US, an Indian company may be providing the technology at the backend.

Kavveri Telecom, a Bangalore-based telecom products manufacturer, has acquired US-based WPCS International’s wireless communications division, which makes solutions used by police officers, firemen and other emergency services.

This strengthens its wireless solutions portfolio and gives its telecom products a strong push into the US markets, say analysts. WPCS International has operations in Lakewood, New Jersey and Hartford in Connecticut and this acquisition will provide Kavveri with a range of wireless systems solutions in addition to its existing products portfolio. Kavveri makes cellphone tower antennas, Radio Frequency (RF) components, repeaters and other types of telecom products. WPCS International, the parent company of the wireless communications division, provides infrastructure for companies in the energy and utility sector, healthcare, educational institutions and public services organisations worldwide.

The wireless communications division of WPCS provides systems such as Wi-Fi and WiMax for mobile communication that connect companies’ assets, connecting data and other information from any location and any device and manage wireless networks assets like cell sites amongst other solutions.

Industry analysts feel that this will open up the doors for Kavveri’s telecom products in the US market. Mr Shivakumar Reddy, Managing Director, Kavveri Telecom Products Ltd said: “The acquisition not only enhances our wireless systems solutions capabilities but will help us in expanding and strengthening our sales channels for our products in the US.”

Kavveri acquired WPCS International’s wireless communications division through Kavveri Technologies America Inc, its US subsidiary. Since 2006, the company has acquired six companies and five of them are in the American continent.

In April, impressed by its expansion plans and its focus, ICRA assigned a higher grade, citing good fundamentals.
