The Chief Minister, Mr V. S. Achuthanandan, on Tuesday inaugurated the Kollam-based ‘spoke' of Technopark.

The Chief Minister also announced the name for the first park building as ‘Ashtamudi' to refer to the name of the lake on whose banks the structure would stand.

SEZ-NOTIFIED

It is being developed in 40 acres of land notified as Special Economic Zone as a modern IT park with global standards, a spokesman for Technopark said.

Former Indian Cricket Captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth was the guest of honour at the inaugural function.

‘Ashtamudi' will initially offer one lakh sq ft of built-up space with plug-and-play facilities. It is all set to carry on the IT revolution sparked by the ‘hub' at Technopark-Thiruvananthapuram, the spokesman said.

When completed, Technopark-Kollam will have two million sq ft of built-up space and will provide employment to an estimated 10,000 professionals.

GREEN BUILDING

Work on the conceptual design for a modern IT infrastructure incorporating the green building concept is already progressing, said Mr Mervin Alexander, Chief Executive Officer, Technopark.

The Kollam Park will also be the first to feature access through water.

The first phase of the building will be operational from August 2011.

The remaining land will be allotted to companies and infrastructure developers as developed plots as per the master plan.

The State Government has sanctioned Rs. 5.95 crore for developing the road infrastructure to the park. The Public Works Department has already initiated action to widen and develop the existing road.

NABARD AID

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) had sanctioned Rs 63 crore under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) Scheme.

The work on canal embankment entrusted to the Kerala Inland Navigation Department is also progressing at a fast pace, along with other infrastructural development such as water supply and sewage treatment plant.
